Ranakpur
The Main Temple in the complex is situated in the center of the temple complex. This four-faced or Chaumukha Temple is dedicated to Tirthankara known as Rishabhji. It also houses a four-faced image of Adinath. An astounding creation with 29 interconnected halls and 1,444 distinctly carved pillars, the temple sprawls over 48,000 sq ft. Each Mandap or Hall has a Shikhar or Spire on the top. Porticoes connecting these mandaps have beautiful paintings of all the 24 Tirthankaras venerated by Jains. The Main Temple is a three-storey structure. 420 columns on the ground floor support the entire structure. There is a divine feeling and deep spiritual mysticism that move one’s heart in the temple. Bells in the corridor sway gently with the breeze and create a celestial music all around the complex. There are four smaller shrines inside the complex and a total of 80 spires. Two temples facing the main temple sport beautiful intricate ornate carvings that resemble the famous Khajuraho sculptures. These two shrines are dedicated to Jain saints Parsvanath and Neminath. You must also see the 8th century Sun Temple, situated near Jain Temples. Dedicated Sun God, the polygonal walls of the temple have richly carved embellishments depicting Sun God riding his splendid chariot and magical warriors ready to fight for a cause.
