Exotic Locales OBEROI
RAJ VILAS - JAIPUR Rajvilas is located on several acres of pristine Rajasthani countryside, just minutes from the region's thriving capital: Jaipur. Once inside this majestic palace-like property, the luxury and elegance of the decor is overwhelming. The rooms and villas are set among sprawling green lawns, with dramatic pools and fountains. The Oberoi Rajvilas is a perfect base for regional touring or simply enjoying the fairytale grounds of the property. Be sure to try out their new spa that offers a variety of western and Ayurvedic body treatments. TAJ
LAKE PALACE - UDAIPURA 250-year-old white marble palace located right in the middle of Lake Pichola (guests take a boat to and from the hotel), the Taj Lake Palace is one of the most memorable places to stay in India. We recommend staying in a suite to get the full "Lake Palace experience" -- suites are decorated with rich silks, lovely murals, and ornate wooden furniture that pay homage to the building's rich and storied history. Touches like inlaid glass floral motifs around the doorways demonstrate the care that goes into even the smallest details. Sample some of the Indian and international cuisine served at the three restaurants: Amrit Sagar, Jharokha, and Neel Kamal. The Jiva Spa offers Indian rejuvenation therapies ranging from aromatherapy massages to Ayurveda-based techniques. OBEROI
UDAI VILAS - UDAIPUR Ranked as # 01 Hotel in the world - Udaivilas, designed to resemble a traditional Rajasthani Palace perched over the banks of Lake Pichola, is intended to be the finest luxury resort in India. Mr. Oberoi dreamed of building this property for many years, and began drafting plans immediately following the success of Rajvilas and Amarvilas. Set in 30 acres of landscaped gardens, fountains and pavilions, this resort has 96 rooms, all of which have private terraces for al fresco dining; most have views of the City Palace and Lake Pichola. Eighteen rooms feature private swimming pools, as do the four Deluxe Suites, and single Maharaja Suite. Once completed, this will be the ideal romantic getaway in India's most enchanting city. - RANTHAMBHORE Maharajahs in Jaipur once had exclusive hunting rights in what is now Ranthambore National Park, and the area has always been considered a precious national treasure. Now visitors can explore Ranthambore much as the Maharajahs did, in magnificent Mughal style. This Aman property features just ten luxury tents, each of which resembles a spacious mini-hotel, with a series of opulent "rooms" partitioned with cotton drapes. Three separate tents house the dining room, sitting room, and spa treatment area. An outdoor terrace and fireplace provides a comfortable focal point for the property and allows guests to absorb the surrounding natural beauty. The
Oberoi Vanyavilas - RANTHAMBHORE The Oberoi Group expands their line of luxury resorts in India by creating new properties in Udaipur and Ranthambore. Opened in November 2001, Vanyavilas features 25 luxury tented-style accommodations adjacent to the famed Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. Designed as a luxury jungle camp, this is the first true resort in any of India's game or wildlife reserves. Each air-conditioned tent measures nearly 800 square feet and is elegantly designed with teak flooring, canvas tented roof, and a private outdoor lounge surrounded by walled gardens to ensure total privacy. It is from here that one may steal a glimpse of an elusive Bengal tiger, with assistance from an expert guide in one of Vanyavilas custom-built safari vehicles. The
Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace - Jodhpur Completed in 1943, this majestic yellow sandstone Art Deco palace was originally constructed for the Jodhpur royal family. Indeed, the 347 rooms do feel fit for a maharaja, and the surrounding 26 acres of gardens, lawns, and courtyards are lovely for an evening stroll. The impressive lobby has vaulted 100-foot-high ceilings and the guest rooms are equally grand, decorated in a tasteful Art Deco style that emphasizes clean lines -- and we love the deep marble bathtubs! Restaurants include the Trophy Bar, Risala, and the Pillars, which offers commanding views of Mahrengarh Fort and the city. Be sure to save time for a dip in the Zodiac Pool or have a cocktail on the terrace, overlooking some of the most impressive gardens in Rajasthan. |
